This gorgeous Moroccan door exudes such a warmth, with rich brown hues and beautiful skilled hand carving. Created from the fragrant wood of the Tamarisk tree harvested 100-200 years ago, this antique door has been refurbished in the traditional ornate Moroccan style.
This small door has been ornately hand-carved using traditional tools. A large, bountiful tree fills nearly the entire door, representing a family tree and signifying the importance of family in Moroccan culture. A lovely florid border surrounds the door. A surprising and delightful element is the one plank of lighter blond wood in the center of the door, providing visual contrast and a stunning wow factor.
Tamarisk wood, also known as salt cedar, is naturally pest repellent and ages beautifully. The variances in grain and staining create a beautiful contrast and add a rich warmth. The design is made by hand carving, then dying with henna and burning with fire for contrast.
This item was completely handmade in a Tuareg cooperative in Amazraou, Morocco, using techniques passed down through many generations. These are truly the finest doors you will find in all of Morocco, suitable for indoors and outdoors, or even for use as a gate door or for a cupboard. Absolutely stunning craftsmanship and one of a kind.
