Intricately hand-carved in the style of tadelakt plaster, this beautiful Moroccan Berber storage chest is lined with leather and dotted with semi-precious gemstones. Handmade in the High Atlas mountain town of Imlil, this incredible chest takes a master Berber craftsman about six months to complete.
The bone pieces, repurposed, are meticulously carved, then stained with henna to give the chest warm, beautiful variations in color. All fittings are copper.
This style of dowry trunk, called a sandok, would originally be filled with fine clothes, bedding, and jewelry, then presented by a husband to his future wife.
Made circa 2010. Matching mirror also available.
Handmade; please allow for minor imperfections. Please inquire with any questions or for more pictures.
